Unmarried Visa

In a genuine relationship for two years or more?

The UK Unmarried Partner Visa allows eligible couples to live together in the UK without being married or in a civil partnership. Since January 2024, couples no longer have to prove that they have lived together for two years, but they must still demonstrate a genuine and subsisting relationship.

We can help with:

  • Assessing your eligibility for the Unmarried Partner Visa
  • Reviewing your relationship history and circumstances
  • Preparing relationship evidence covering the required period
  • Assessing evidence where you and your partner have lived apart
  • Reviewing the financial and accommodation requirements
  • Checking your English language evidence
  • Preparing and checking your complete application
  • Advising on extensions, ILR and the route to settlement

Cohabitation is no longer mandatory, but strong relationship evidence is essential.

What evidence do you need?

Without a marriage or civil partnership certificate, your application needs to clearly demonstrate that your relationship is genuine, subsisting and similar to marriage or civil partnership.

  • Joint tenancy agreements or evidence of shared accommodation
  • Joint bank statements and financial commitments
  • Travel records and evidence of time spent together
  • Messages, call records and other communication evidence
  • Photographs and evidence of visits
  • Evidence of your plans to live together in the UK
  • Other evidence showing the history and development of your relationship

If you have not lived together, we can help you build a clear evidence bundle explaining your circumstances and demonstrating the strength of your relationship.
